What is Board Certification?

A voluntary program, Board Certification recognizes attorneys with at least five years of experience working in a broad area of specialization, such as criminal, bankruptcy or personal injury trial. The attorney must pass a test and show a proficiency in pleading, taking cases to trial and appealing guilty verdicts, as examples.

DWI Certifications

Board Certification recognizes broad specialization in criminal defense. The State of Texas does not offer certification for a particular type of criminal defense, such as DWI.

While Chris Hoover is not board certified in DWI defense, he has taken more advanced DWI courses than any other criminal defense lawyer in Texas.

Sobriety Testing Certification

Chris Hoover was the first Texas attorney to receive national certification from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) in Field Sobriety Testing. He continued with this training and has earned his Instructor’s Certification for Field Sobriety Testing. This means he knows the theory, strengths and weaknesses of these types of tests.

Blood Testing Certification

After taking additional hours, Chris Hoover became certified in the scientific analysis of blood and urine. Because of his scientific background he is also quite familiar with the instruments and protocol of a scientific laboratory.

Drug Recognition Expert

Chris Hoover also took preliminary certification as a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE). These classes are designed to help police identify people who are intoxicated by substances other than alcohol, including marijuana, cocaine, heroin and prescription medicine.

Intoxilyzer breath test Certification

He is also the only Texas lawyer certified as an Operator for the Intoxilyzer 5000. The Intoxilyzer is the breath test machine used throughout Texas for DWI cases. Chris Hoover owns two Intoxilyzer 5000 machines which he uses for demonstrations and speeches about DWI.

Although not board certified in Criminal Law, Chris Hoover is well educated and qualified in DWI defense. He limits his law practice to DWI cases which allows him to gain specialized knowledge in all facets of DWI law.
